Chagrin Valley Little Theatre takes a "whack" at dark comedy with THE NORWEGIANS

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio - Looking for a humorous break from traditional holiday entertainment? The Chagrin Valley Little Theatre may have your ticket at The River Street Playhouse. A dark comedy, THE NORWEGIANS opens 8 p.m. Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving, and plays Friday and Saturday evenings for six performances.

Directed by Yvonne E. Pilarczyk, the play is set in the cold north. Two women meet in a bar and lament the struggle to find a lover before the first freeze. The women, 'Olive,' played by Catherine Remick and 'Betty,' played by Marylee Gotch, also find themselves cursing the men who have recently scorned them.

One thing leads to the next and they enlist two "not so good at what they do" hit men, 'Gus' (Nick Grimsic) and 'Tor' (Don Knepper) to dispose of their ex-lovers. However, just as the path of love has its ups and downs, hilarious twists and complications arise in this business of revenge. Does it lead to romance? Uff da!

The play was written by C. Denby Swanson, a female playwright who offers a fresh new voice to contemporary comedy. It premiered in New York in 2013 and had an off-Broadway run in 2014. Fans of "Fargo" will find the style of dark, northern-American humor familiar.

Show times are 8 p.m. It is best suited for adult audiences. All seats are $12. Tickets may be purchased online at www.CVLT.org or by calling the Box Office Monday through Saturday 1-6 p.m. at 440-247-8955.

CVLT's River Street Playhouse is located at 56 River St., west of the main CVLT building in Chagrin Falls.
