HOW TO BE A RESPECTABLE JUNKIE
FREE Performance, Thursday, February 20 (6:30pm)
at the Cuyahoga County Public Library
(Parma-Snow Branch - 2121 Snow Rd.)
After a powerful performance two years ago, HTBARJ returns to the library for a onetime FREE performance. The 75-minute production will be followed by a talkback with the playwright, actor, and the man who inspired the play.
Based on the true story of a man from NE Ohio who overcame heroin addiction, HOW TO BE A RESPECTABLE JUNKIE is an award-winning play written by Greg Vovos and featuring Christopher Bohan*. It is a humorous, heartbreaking, but ultimately hopeful look into the struggles faced by those caught in heroin’s deadly grip.
HTBARJ premiered at Dobama Theatre in the Summer of 2017 where it was directed by Nathan Motta and played to sold-out audiences and received both critical and audience acclaim, including a feature in the New York Times. Since then it has toured to colleges, art galleries, conferences, medical schools, and theatres both in and out of Ohio. Don’t miss the opportunity to see it free, if you haven’t already!
You may register for the performance at this link. Seats are filling fast!
If you’d like to get a feel for what the play is like, here’s a link to an extended trailer.
Please note, the play does have some profanity and depicts drug use.

"Sometimes, a play simply must be seen because it speaks so many languages. "How to Be a Respectable Junkie," ... is something of a Rosetta stone.”
Andrea Simakis, THE PLAIN DEALER
"...a powerful piece of theater...brutally precise.”
Christine Howey, SCENE
“Every
so often a show comes along that hits with the intensity of a car wreck. This
is such a show with no punches being pulled. At times humorous to counter
balance the raw nerve intensity it is a stark look at a national epidemic that
shows no sign of weakening. As brutal as it is, this is must see theater."
Talkin' Broadway.
How to Be A Respectable Junkie is a special evening of theater. Superb acting, within the confines of a meaningful script…absolute must-be-seen theater for anyone who goes to be informed, to share in a real experience.
