CHARACTER INFORMATION
MEN
Danny Zucko - Tenor D to High B (good falsetto) - Leader of the “Burger Palace Boys.” Well-built, nice- looking, with an air of cool easy going charm. Strong and confident.
Kenickie - Baritone D to F# - Second in command of the “Burger Palace Boys.” Tough looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Has an offbeat sense of humor.
Doody - Tenor D to G (good falsetto) - Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero worshiping attitude toward the other guys. Plays guitar.
Roger - Tenor F to G - The “anything for a laugh” stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. One of the boys; a clown who enjoys putting people on.
Sonny LaTierri - Bari/Tenor - Italian looking with shiny black hair. A braggart and wheeler dealer who thinks he’s a real lady killer.
Eugene Florczyk - Bari/Tenor - The class valedictorian. Physically awkward with weak eyes and a high pitched voice. Nerdy but smug. An apple polisher. Pompous but gullible.
Vince Fontaine - Bari/Tenor - A typical “teen audience” radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast talking. A veteran “greaser.”
Johnny Casino - Baritone A to C (good falsetto) - A “greaser” type leader of high school rock band. Thinks of himself as a real rock ‘n’ roll idol.
Teen Angel - Tenor E to B (good falsetto) - Good looking, Fabian style singer.
WOMEN
Sandy Dumbrowski - Soprano A to D - Danny’s love interest. Sweet, wholesome, naïve and cute, like Sandra Dee of the “Gidget” movies.
Betty Rizzo - Mezzo A to C - Leader of the Pink Ladies, tough, sarcastic, outspoken but vulnerable. Italian with unconventional good looks.
Frenchy - Soprano - A Dreamer. Good-natured, but dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can’t wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician.
Marty - Alto C to Db - The beauty of the group. Pretty, looks and acts older than she is but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated.
Jan - Mezzo Bb to Bb - Chubby, compulsive eater; loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with the boys.
Patty Simcox - Mezzo - A typical cheerleader at a middle class American public high school. Attractive and athletic. Aggressive, sure of herself, given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. Catty, but in an All-American Girl sort of way. She can twirl a baton.
Cha-Cha DiGregorio - Soprano - A blind date. Loud, brash and knows how to use her looks. Takes pride in being “the best dancer as St. Bernadette’s.”
Miss Lynch - Mezzo Bb to Bb - Old maid English teacher.
