Job Title: Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Playwriting
Festival (MBKPF) Education Associate
The Marilyn Bianchi Kids’
Playwriting Festival in the oldest Young Playwrights competition in the United
States. It is open exclusively to Cuyahoga County students in 1st
through 12th Grades. The Festival, which takes place the first
weekend of June at Dobama Theatre, is currently entering its 38th
year.
Position
Description:
The MBKPF Education Associate is a
part-time, year-round position that will be responsible for promoting the MBKPF;
creating and developing partnerships for future outreach programs; and be the primary
contact for Cuyahoga County educators.
Major
Areas of Responsibility
Major areas of responsibility
include but are not limited to:
- Creating varied marketing and promotional materials.
- Distributing Kids’ Fest information to educators in
public, parochial, charter and private schools and homeschooling networks;
creating and maintaining an educator contact list.
- Developing the outline of a Kids’ Fest Outreach Program
by coordinating and collaborating with similar education programs in
Cuyahoga County.
- Assisting the Festival Producer in processing play
submissions.
- Organizing and archiving Kids’ Fest materials.
- Writing monthly and year-end reports.
Primary
Objectives:
- Marketing, promoting and advocating for the Marilyn
Bianchi Kids’ Playwriting Festival.
- Working towards the goal of increasing the number of
educators and educational institutions involved in the Festival.
- Assisting with the day-to-day responsibilities of
producing the annual Festival.
- Creating a year-end report with collected data and
reccomendations.
Specific
Responsibilities of the Job
This is a grant-funded position. The
person hired would be responsible for writing and submitting a monthly update
detailing their progress and achievements.
Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The MBKPF Education Associate should
have broad knowledge and experience in professional and educational theatre,
excellent organizational and writing skills and the ability to work with both adults
and children. The Associate should have problem-solving capabilities and have
an enthusiasm for nurturing children’s creativity. Grant writing experience a
plus.
Preferred
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, Education or related
fields.
- Experience in all aspects of theatre, specifically educational
and/or children’s theatre.
- Grant writing experience.
The employee would be required to
have a minimum of 10 contact hours per week at the Dobama Theatre offices.
