The Roberto Ocasio Foundation (TROF) 2017 applications are being accepted until May 15 for the Camp, June 25-30, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The Camp has been in existence for 13 years under the leadership of Artistic Director/Artist-In-Residence, Bobby Sanabria--seven-time Grammy nominee and world-renowned jazz and Latin jazz drummer/percussionist, composer, music educator, bandleader, and producer.
For music students of all instruments in grades 8-12, the one-of-a-kind resident Camp emphasizes the Latin side of the jazz continuum that includes learning about the history, culture, and relationship to jazz and all other forms of American popular music, and a public performance. The program covers technical and style aspects of Latin jazz, analysis of Latin American rhythms (in particular, la clave), and jazz composing, arranging, and improvising.
