LIGHTING DESIGNER
JOB DESCRIPTION
ANALYSIS
-Meet with production team to discuss concepts, hear directors vision
-Find out staging circumstances/options (stage and riser configurations)
-Script analysis
-Mood and spirit of the play
-Action of the play (What the characters do, how they move and behave in the space)
-Find out cast size
-Historical period/locale of the play
-The socio-economic status and personality of the characters
-Fiscal and time budgets
RESEARCH
-Selection of lighting color palette in collaboration with design team
-Pick and demonstrate gel color to design team
-Follow the unity of production concepts that have been set forth by the Director and Design Team
IMPLEMENTATION
-Responsible for design, installation and operation of lighting and FX used in the show with over-hire worker assistance if needed.
-Program Cues with ION Lighting Console
-Provide lighting plot to Design Team
-Attend rehearsals as needed to be familiar with staging of production
-Meet production schedule deadlines for hang, focus, and cue to cue
-Prepare cue sheets for run crew and Stage Manager
-Rent or buy equipment as authorized by Production Manager
-Perform lighting cue walkthrough with Director before tech week
-Attend all production meetings
- Be a good ambassador on the behalf of NWT and treat people consonant with mission and values of NWT
TECH WEEK
-Attend ALL tech and dress rehearsal
-Attend all production meetings after rehearsals to discuss notes, problems so decisions and solutions can be made
-Train lighting crew including board op, spot ops, etc; also “dimmer check” procedures for all performances
RUN OF SHOW
-Fix lighting problems as needed (burnt out gel, lamps, foggers, etc.)
POST PRODUCTION
-Participate in an evaluation process
-Pick up and return all rented equipment as needed in collaboration with Technical Director
