This storytelling program spotlights the HUMAN side of the Civil War -- the personal stories that linger in our hearts long after the history books are closed. Join us for surprising, touching, and little-known tales that reveal courage, humor, and resilience during one of America's most difficult eras at The Campana Center for Ideation PC 101 of Lorain County Community College; 1005 N Abbe Rd; Elyria, Ohio. *Thursday, May 7, 2026; 7:30 p.m.: Take a LIGHTNING FAST LOOK AT LORAIN COUNTY at the meeting of the Avon Historical Society at the Avon Olde Town Hall at the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge Rd. in Avon, Ohio. This storytelling program will take the group on a trip through time with fun facts, trivial tidbits and surprising stories. The presentation is FREE and open to the public. *Saturday, May 9, 2026; 11:00 a.m.: Celebrate America 250 and take a trip through US history through song with this storytelling program with PowerPoint. The Lorain Historical Society will present I HEAR AMERICA SINGING (Historical Moments Marked With Music) at 329 W. 10th Street in Lorain, OH. The program is open to the public. *Thursday, May 21 2026; 1:00 p.m.: Join us for a journey back to a time when courage, hope, and determination lit the way to freedom when we present NEXT STOP FREEDOM at The Campana Center for Ideation PC 101 of Lorain County Community College; 1005 N Abbe Rd; Elyria, Ohio. This storytelling program shares remarkable true stories from the Underground Railroad, with a special focus on Ohio and the Great Lakes as vital pathways to Canada. *Friday, May 22, 2026; 6:00 p.m.: The Logan Theater, 88 East Main Street in Logan, Ohio will present VICTORIA WOODHULL: SHATTERING GLASS CEILINGS. Though it was illegal for her to vote and she was too young to even BE president of the United States, Victoria Woodhull ran for office in 1872 anyway. See her story in this documentary featuring Kate Luke as Victoria and narrated by Debra Rose. Tickets are $5.00/person.
