Akron Schools Invited to Experience a Live Dance Performance by University of Akron Dance Company Outreach

 

AKRON, OH—The University of Akron Dance Company (UADC) will be presenting a Matinee Outreach performance of their Spring 2017 Concert for Akron Schools on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 10 am at the E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, 198 Hill Street, Akron, Ohio.

 

Students (grades 3-8) are invited to a free matinee to experience the joy of movement by viewing a variety of dance styles. These will include 19^th century minstrelsy, ballet, modern dance, and hip-hop. Students will also experience the work of guest choreographer, Leslie Dworkin. Works choreographed by UA dance faculty, Robin Prichard, Kara Stewart, Tom Smith, and Cydney Spohn will also be performed. 

 

Not only is this event free of charge, it will also offer a valuable learning experience for students! Educational study guides will be provided for use in the classroom prior to the event. These materials will include a historical background on dance, including different styles and genres, an outline of theater etiquette, as well as performance and post-performance activities.
