Why the World Would End Without Pomegranates

A new play by Morgan E. Elswick

Directed by Tim Tavcar

Synopsis

Why the World Would End Without Pomegranates is a modern adaptation of the Greek Persephone myth, except in this version, Persephone is given much more autonomy. Instead of focusing on her “kidnapping” and relationship with Hades, this version closely follows the connection between Persephone and her mother, Demeter. The setting should be modern-day, with scenes taking place in the Underworld, on a mountain, and in a town.

Cast

Persephone: Goddess of Spring (female; early 20s)

Demeter: Goddess of the Harvest (female; 40s-50s)

Hades: King of the Underworld; God of the Dead (male; 40s-50s)

Zeus: King of the Gods; God of Thunder and Lightning (male; 50s+)

Hecate: Goddess of Crossroads and Necromancy (female; 40s+)

Helios: The Sun (male; 20s-30s)

There will be 1-2 rehearsals in Cleveland. The reading will be on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00pm at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts, 397 East 156th Street, Cleveland.

This is an unpaid reading, but a great chance to be a part of a new play!
