For the protagonist, Prix, fireworks are an escape from her harsh reality. After growing up in an unlivable home life, she now lives in the streets as a gang member and dreams of launching an incredible fireworks display. The audience gets to know Prix over a 14-year period during which she meets new friends, encounters old ghosts, and bounces in and out of juvenile detention and prison. All the while her head is in the sky, dreaming of fireworks.
