Be swept away by this enchanted musical!
This unforgettable tale is brought to life with enchanted characters,
fabulous costumes, and a stunning score including, the Tony-winning title
song, "Beauty and the Beast."
As director, Jill Koslen-Freireich, shares, “Audiences discover, as Belle
does, that who we are inside is more important than outward appearances. This
story inspires us to look deeply into someone’s heart before determining if a
roar is a danger sign or a lonely cry. It's also a story that believes
redemption is possible, even when you've made a mistake you wish you could
nullify. It reminds us that it's almost never too late to learn to love
and be loved.
Beachwood’s Beauty and the Beast opened on the heels of Disney’s release of
its live action film. The Disney animated feature film from which the play
(and newer film) is based premiered in 1991 and won the Academy Award for
Best Song and Best Original Score and made history for being the first
animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture. The Broadway production
opened in 1994 and ran for 13 years. The Broadway production expanded upon
the animated version with seven new songs. The new songs were intended to
bring out the sensitive side of the Beast and to underscore Belle's courage.
The play was nominated for nine Tony Awards. It has been performed in more
than 30 countries reaching over 35 million theatergoers.
As always, Beachwood
Community Theater plans to give back to the community by donating all candy
sale profits to Harvest for Hunger. The intergenerational cast is also
hosting a book drive donating lightly used books, coinciding with Belle’s
love for books.
