FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BEREA, OH — The Department of Theatre and Dance at Baldwin Wallace University performs Tony Kushner’s Angels in America Part 2: Perestroika directed by Scott Plate.

This conclusion of Tony Kushner's award-winning epic of American theatre is a work of stunning imagination, rich humor and profound feeling, and an elegy for the age of AIDS. Published in 1993, it was also a prophetic vision of the America we have become, and an early clarion call for change.

Kushner’s boundary-breaking depiction of two relationships, one gay and one straight, interweaves actual historical characters such as Roy Cohn and Ethel Rosenberg, and creates a breathtakingly imaginative canvas for an America on the cusp of profound change.

Perestroika opens October 19 at 7:30 p.m.  Additional shows are October 20-22 also at 7:30 p.m.  All shows are in the William Allman Theatre, Kleist Center for Art and Drama, 95 E. Bagley Rd in Berea. Tickets can be acquired through the BW Theatre and Dance Box Office also located in Kleist or online at www.bw.edu/tickets and are $5 each. BW students get one free ticket. This play contains mature themes. Parental discretion is advised.

“Notably, one cast member consistently hits it out of the park. As Roy Cohn, Alex Smith is superb. Whether he’s cooing, bellowing, preening with confidence or writhing in pain from his own case of AIDS, Smith nails moments with an immediacy and callous believability that is mesmerizing.”
—Christine Howey, Rave and Pan

“PERESTROIKA is not only a stunning resolution of the rending human drama of MILLENIUM APPROACHES, but also a true millennial work of art…”
—Frank Rich, New York Times

“Witty and compassionate, furious and incredibly smart … It’s impossible to imagine anyone captivated by the beginning not wanting — needing — to go back for the end.” —Linda Winer, Newsday

“ANGELS IN AMERICA is a monumental achievement.”
—Jeremy Gerard, Variety
