University School (an all-boys school in Hunting Valley) is holding auditions for high school girls (grades 9-12) for our Fall Play: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD LIVE! Overview and Important Dates Auditions Tuesday, September 2nd from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Wednesday, September 3rd from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Thursday, September 4th from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Note: You only need to attend one of the days (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). Callbacks will be held on Thursday, September 4th if necessary. Rehearsals Tuesday, September 8th – Friday, October 10th: 4:00-6:00 pm Tuesday, October 15th - Thursday 17th: 4:00-7:00 pm *Not every character will be called to every rehearsal. However, please bring a full list of conflicts for this time frame to your audition. SYNOPSIS Six strangers in a lonely farmhouse, surrounded by brain-eating zombies – what could go wrong? Night of the Living Dead™ Live is a fun and hilarious re-imagining of George A. Romero’s legendary classic. Set in 1968 and presented in all black and white, it literally feels like the film has been brought to life and placed onstage. The play lovingly examines the movie itself, the period in which it was made, and the film’s undying influence on the horror genre. More than just a recreation of the story, the play celebrates the history and influence of the movie. Through a series of multiple endings, the characters are all faced with different issues and challenges while desperately trying to survive the night. However, their contrasting personalities and agendas always seem to prevent the group from working together. Which leaves us all wondering: Could anyone survive a night of the living dead? AVAILABLE CHARACTERS The original production featured a small cast, and each performer played multiple characters. As such, some characters only appear in one scene. Depending on interest and availability, there may be opportunities to play a single character, or to play multiple characters as part of a larger role. BARBRA – Traditional and put-together at first, but as the events unfold, digresses into a child-like state. JUDY – Kind, approachable, down-to-earth. Tom’s girlfriend. HELEN – Dry, world-weary homemaker. Unamused wife of Harry. Mother of Karen. CHIEF MCCLELLAND – Small town sheriff. Folksy and pragmatic. KAREN – Nine-year-old daughter of Harry and Helen. RADIO ANNOUNCER – Official, energized broadcaster. NEWS ANCHOR – Even keeled, even as the stakes continue to rise. REPORTER – Reports the truth to the American people. SCIENTIST – Share the scientific findings with the reporter. GENERAL – Buries the science and end the interview. DALE – Another young police officer. ZOMBIES – Lots and lots of zombies!
