Wandering Aesthetics Presents… “The Boiling Point” Play Reading and Discussion Vinegar Tom by Caryl Churchill Wandering Aesthetics is proud to announce Vinegar Tom by Caryl Churchill as the next play in our monthly play reading series, The Boiling Point. Vinegar Tom will be read on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 7 pm at the Wadsworth Shelter in Sand Run Metro Park located at 1400 Sand Run Parkway in Akron, Ohio. The Boiling Point is open to the public. Anyone may come and read a part or simply listen and join the discussion afterwards. While the event is free, there is a $5 suggested donation to help cover the costs associated with scripts and space rental. Alice and her mother Joan are accused of witchcraft after an altercation with their neighbors, followed by several mishaps upon their neighbor’s farm - supposedly the result of Joan's "witchcraft.” Vinegar Tom examines gender and power relationships through the lens of 17th century witchcraft trials. The script employs features of the epic theater associated with German playwright Bertolt Brecht, particularly the non-realistic use of songs. About the Playwright: Caryl Churchill is an English dramatist known for her use of non-naturalistic techniques and feminist themes, dramatization of the abuses of power, and exploration of sexual politics. She is acknowledged as a major playwright in the English language and one of world theatre's most influential writers.
