"this musical speaks to a universal truth as every character in the story just wants to be loved." https://bit.ly/2Hduqdx
From the West Side Leader:
"The cast is excellent" "Costume designer Jasen Smith did an excellent job" "the funny business, the physical humor and the choreography are controlled by director and choreographer Joshua Larkin. He manages the nonsense with a firm hand." http://www.akron.com/akron-ohio-entertainment-news.asp...<http://www.akron.com/akron-ohio-entertainment-news.asp?aID=37263> "You poor things. This is a wedding. Your problems have just begun." AKRON - Weathervane is set to bring you blushing brides, nervous grooms, overbearing moms, unexpected guests, and plenty of crazy twists and turns as we present the delightful musical, It Shoulda Been You, in the Founders Theater March 22 through April 15, 2018. The bride is Jewish. The groom is Catholic. Her mother is a force of nature. His mother is a tempest in a cocktail shaker, and, when the bride's ex-boyfriend crashes the party, the perfect wedding starts to unravel faster than you can whistle "Pachelbel's Canon!" Show times for this charming, funny, and original new musical are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. There is no show on April 1 (Easter Sunday). Tickets are $26, with special pricing for seniors, students, and groups of 12 or more, and can be obtained by calling the box office at 330-836-2626 or going to www.weathervaneplayhouse.com<http://www.weathervaneplayhouse.com> Weathervane's production of It Shoulda Been You is made possible by a generous donation from the Gay Community Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation. It Shoulda Been You is directed by Weathervane Playhouse's Business Manager, Joshua Larkin, who says of the show: "This show, which enjoyed its Broadway run in 2015 with a star-studded cast, including Akron's own Lisa Howard, presents a good old-fashioned wedding farce, complete with all the trimmings: the cold-footed bride, the over-bearing mother, the 'surprise' appearance of an old flame. Neuroses and mischief give birth to panic and discord, and a nuptial once thought to be fully on track now seems destined for disaster of the highest order. This age-old tale could rest on its laurels, relying on over-the-top shenanigans to keep its audience in stitches. Yet, at the heart of this show are a cast of characters that, for all their wacky eccentricities, share a common thread. They are, in fact, real people. Not so much in the sense that the events before you are based on a true story, but more so that they are based on the truth that so many of us experience every day of our lives." The April 5 and 6 shows will feature a post-show talk-back with Carla Rose Fisher, who wrote the lyrics to Perfect for It Shoulda Been You. Ms. Fisher will also be teaching a master class on "Interpreting a Lyric" at Weathervane on April 7 at 4 p.m. For more information on this workshop, contact Lauren Sprowls, Weathervane's Education Director, at 330-836-2626 XT 35.
