As the bells of Notre Dame ring from the heights of the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris, Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer, observes the city reveling in the annual Feast of Fools. Escaping the stony prison of his caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the gypsy Esmeralda.
