June 16 Auditions in Ashtabula: Dog Sees God, by Bert V. Royal
AUDITION: Bert V. Royal's "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead" Directed by Douglas Eric Anderson. Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 West 13th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio. 4 men and 4 women needed. Performances will be August 11, 12, and 13, presented at the Ashtabula Arts Center as a production of Rescued from the Mess, a local theater collaboration. Dog Sees God is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Dog Sees God provides a gritty, witty take on beloved characters that many will find familiar from their childhoods. The playwright adapts the gentle conventions and conceits of a simple comic strip to the harsh hormonal realities that many teens face every day. The result leaves the audience with an indelible heartful of laughter and loss. Those auditioning can bring a prepared monologue and/or read from the script. The play includes strong language and adult situations inappropriate for children. All characters are of high school age but adults are strongly encouraged to audition. If you need to schedule an alternate audition time, please contact the director at rescuedfromthemess@gmail.com, or call 440-813-6088 before June 12th. Rescued from the Mess is an independent theater collaboration in the Ashtabula area. We hope to carve out a niche for bold and unabashed theater in our area. We are especially interested in brash, edgy works that feature unheard voices and unseen faces. We hope to offer a haven for works and playwrights that might not otherwise find safe harbor in our area. And most of all, we hope to reach out to the audience members who do not currently see themselves represented on stage, and show them art that reflects their lives and concerns with honesty and compassion. -- "My dear little librarian, pile up enough tomorrows and you'll find you've collected nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill in The Music Man, by Meredith Willson
