Actors' Summit opens the 2015-2016 theater season
*Press release* *For additional information* *MaryJo Alexander* *330-374-7568* <330-374-7568> *"…a tender and moving theatre work, a human patchwork rippling in the breeze of memory." —Newsweek.* *Actors’ Summit* *Opens QUILTERS* Actors’ Summit, Akron’s professional theater, announces the opening of the 2015-2016 theater season with the musical,* QUILTERS* by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. *About The Play* Originally developed and produced at the Denver Center Theatre, this play with music, is a joyous and moving celebration of American womanhood. It became a record-setting regional theater success before moving to Broadway and Edinburgh Festival. It was nominated for 5 Tony awards in 1985. *QUILTERS* Combines music, dance and scenes of vivid dramatic intensity. This beautiful play with music pays tribute to the courage and spirit of our nation's pioneer woman. The quilts are a metaphor for family and history. *QUILTERS* “is a show pieced together with love and stitched with pride…a thing of beauty, comfort and joy." —NY Post. *About The Cast* *Sally Groth* appears as Jenny, the eldest daughter. *QUILTERS* is Sally’s 32nd show at *Actors’ Summit*. An Equity actor and fiddler; she was last seen in *The Book Club Play* and *Photograph 51 *for* Actors’ Summit. * *Hope Caldwell*, recently appeared as Irene in *My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding* and *Grand Night for Singing. *She is joined on stage by* Shani Carlson Ferry, *a long time* Actors’ Summit *company member. Shani will appear in *Talley’s Folly *later this season*. * New to* Actors’ Summit c*ompany are* Sarah Slagle *and* Rachel Irwin. Rachel *and *Sarah *are musical theatre majors at* Mt. Union College. Charlene DeJournett*, an Akron native, also joins* Actors’ Summit Theater *for the first time*. Charlene, *an R&B award winning singer*, *was last seen at* Actors’ Summit *for their* “Lights Up 2015!” *event. *Deborah “Ingy” Ingersoll* joins Actors’ Summit as Musical Director, this is her fifth show at Actors’ Summit. She is joined by *Brian Mueller* on guitar, and *Jon Mosey *on banjo. *Ian Leroy*, staff Music department at Mt. Union College, also joins the small orchestra for this show. *Performance details* The show will have a preview performance on Thursday Oct. 8th, 2015; with the official opening on Friday night, Oct. 9th, 2015 *QUILTERS *is scheduled for a 16 performance run, closing on Nov. 1, 2015. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8:00 P.M. and Sundays at 2 PM, and take place at Greystone Hall, in downtown Akron. The show is appropriate for all ages. A free dessert reception with the cast follows the opening night performance on Friday, Oct. 9th, 2015. There will be a small display of quilts in the theater lobby areas during this show. *Special Events:* *QUILTERS,*will be performing at Greystone Hall during the *Mutton Hill Quilt show, *which takes place at the John S.
