Auditions - "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "Of Mice and Men"
Kent State University at Stark (6000 Frank Ave. NW, N. Canton) announces auditions for the spring 2019 productions of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin and “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. This well-known musical theatre gem and classic drama are filled with diverse characters that offer artists the opportunity to explore and express their craft to the fullest. Auditions will be held on November 14 & 15 at 7:00 P.M. in the Fine Arts building on Stark Campus. These productions are non-union and non-paying. Auditions are open to everyone, including community persons, students, and instructors. “Spelling Bee” will be directed by Jim Weaver and musically directed by Laurel Seeds. Needed are four women and five men of various age and vocal ranges (no children). If auditioning for “Spelling Bee” please prepare two contrasting songs in the style of the show or you can sing from the show itself. An accompanist will be provided, and you will be asked to vocalize for range while at the audition. Please bring music in the proper key. A short comedic monologue is welcome but reading from the script will also be available. Rehearsals start on January 14, 2019 and occur five evenings a week until opening. Performances run March 1 through 10. “Of Mice and Men” will be directed by Morgan Brown. Needed are one woman and nine men of various age ranges (no children). If auditioning for “Of Mice and Men” please prepare a short dramatic monologue but reading from the script will also be available. Rehearsals start on February 25th and occur five evenings a week until opening. Performances run April 12 through 21.
