"Hairspray" previews tonight at Weathervane Playhouse!
Weathervane Playhouse presents the multi-Tony Award-winning Hairspray. "You Can't Stop the Beat" in this delightful story of dancing, romance, and social justice. AKRON - The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray, the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, makes its way to the Weathervane stage June 8 through July 2. This family-friendly musical is piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire - to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do! Hairspray runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 - $26 and are available by calling 330-836-2626 or going to www.weathervaneplayhouse.com<http://www.weathervaneplayhouse.com/> Director Marissa Leenaarts says "Hairspray still holds relevance in today's society. Laugh, sing, and tap your feet through this upbeat fast-paced show, but take this lesson away - we as an audience must always continue to strive for acceptance of all people. Together, we can do so much more to overcome what has divided us in the past. YOU can't stop the beat!" Weathervane Playhouse's production of Hairspray is sponsored by a generous donation from the Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau.
