Tickets on Sale Now for Student Matinee Series at Stocker Arts Center Tickets for the rest of Stocker Arts Center's 2018-2018 Student Matinee performances are on sale now. The Student Matinee Series consists of weekday performances designed with students in mind. Stocker Arts Center welcomes all public, private, charter and home schoolers, as well as the general public at these performances. All performances are held in the Hoke Theatre. Amber Brown is Not a Crayon Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. (sensory friendly performance) Artspower Based on the book, Amber Brown is Not a Crayon, written by Paula Danziger. Amber Brown is having what may be the worst year of her life. She and Justin Daniels were the perfect team: they laughed at each other's jokes, sat next to each other in class, and stayed best friends when Justin's dad had to move away. But now things are different. Now, Justin's house has been sold and he is going to Alabama; that's too far from New Jersey to think about. ArtsPower's uniquely funny and forthright musical portrays a feisty young girl who refuses to let her problems get the better of her. Amber learns some valuable lessons about the virtues of patience and the meaning of forgiveness. Doktor Kaboom and the Wheel of Science Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Doktor Kaboom is having trouble picking his favorite science demonstrations, so he's bringing them all! Unfortunately there are way too many to do them all in one show. The solution: The Wheel of Science! Doktor Kaboom has built a great big spinning wheel and labeled it with everything from optical illusions to chemical reactions to a homemade hovercraft, and more! At least a dozen fantastic demonstrations ready to go. Wherever the wheel stops, that's what's next! Will we turn a water bottle into a rocket or catapult bananas across the stage? Electrocute a pickle or create artificial gravity? Who knows? No two shows will be the same. So, step right up, and let's spin that wheel! Jonathan Kingham & Ryan Shea Smith "Songwriting Made Simple" Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. Free Cirigliano Studio Theatre With their diverse musical styles, connection to the audience and the songwriters of all ages they write with here at LCCC, this concert will be all about great songs. These Nashville transplants have had long and successful careers as singer/songwriters. Jonathan Kingham must be doing something right. In his first few years on the scene, he quickly developed into a seasoned performer while sharing the stage with the likes of Shawn Colvin, Joan Osborne, Michael McDonald, Doug Stone, Vanessa Carlton, and Jonatha Brooke. He has toured with such diverse acts as Julio Iglesias Jr. and currently plays keyboard and guitar for the rock band Toad the Wet Sprocket. But it's not only his live performances that are winning him fans and accolades. He took first place honors in the National Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest, The Unisong International Song Contest, as well as placing two years in a row in the top five of the John Lennon Song contest. He brought home the First Place Award in the USA Songwriting Competition in the Folk Category as well as the Overall Grand Prize out of a worldwide field of 33,000 entries and was awarded First Place in the Gospel category of the ISC songwriting contest. Based out of Nashville he splits his time between touring the country and writing, recording, producing and conducting songwriting residencies. With a smooth blend of folk, pop, country and jazz, Kingham comes armed with a quick freestyle wit, and has become a favorite on the circuit. www.jonathankingham.com Seattle-native, award-winning singer/songwriter and world class performer, Ryan Shea Smith, serves up soul-stirring lyrics while highlighting his rich, sophisticated voice. His appeal is authentic songwriting craftsmanship with jazz and blues sensibilities. Ryan has a feel and vibe that conveys excitement and spontaneity displaying his confidence and dexterity. Ryan is a veteran songwriter and recipient of multiple songwriting awards, including his sophomore release "Stay Awhile," which was a John Lennon song contest winner. He honed his musical skills at the University of Washington and through a steady touring schedule and is known for his incomparable singing voice and his command of keyboard and guitar. This concert in the intimate Cirigliano Studio Theatre will feature our area songwriters who the duo has worked with all week on campus.
