Workshop Players announce auditions for *A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol* by Walton Jones, David Wohl and Faye Greenberg, directed by Kristina Rivera with music direction by Jayne Kacik. Auditions will be held at the theater, 44820 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst on Sunday, August 18 from 3 - 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 20 from 7 – 9 p.m. Please bring a head shot and sheet music in the correct key of a favorite Christmas song. There will be cold readings from the script For more information, contact the director at kriverakr35@gmail.com The year is 1943 and the Feddington Players are geared up to present their contemporary take on Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Though it seems a coup to snag famous soap opera star William St. Claire to play Scrooge, a mid-show breakdown on his part leads to a hilarious improvised “save” of Tiny Tim … and even the Lindberg Baby. This charming show demonstrates the old art of “live radio,” alongside traditional caroling, 1940’s style commercials that would never fly today, and an amazing rendition of the well-known Dickens tale. It is heartwarming and funny. And a great way to usher in the Christmas season. Performance dates are Nov. 14-17 and 22-24 *A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol* Character descriptions *(age ranges just a suggestion*) : Females 20s – 40s + Males 20s – 70s + Clifton Feddington, 55+: Front man for WOV’s Nash-Kelvinator Mystery Theatre, Mutual Announcer. William St. Claire, 60-70+: A retired star of stage and screen. William is a bit of a curmudgeon and looks down on radio as one of the bastard children of the stage. A guest performer in tonight’s show, Mr. St. Claire plays Scrooge. Charles “Cholly” Butts, 35+: A funny man. Has a day job as a baker at Weequahic Diner (where his specialty is the nesselrode pie). Fritz Canigliaro, early 40s:+ Once an East-coast Florsheim Shoe salesman (and still plugs them whenever he gets an opportunity for a little commission), now a WOV regular. The resident masher, cynic and wise-guy, Fritz plays Frank Nelson cameos in comedy sketches. “Little” Jackie Sparks, Tenor, 18+: Not actually “little,” but young with a high speaking voice. Judith Davenport, 30s+: Although quite the cutup herself, Judith is the resident “leading lady” playing all such roles as a regular. Determined and stubborn. Considers herself a “legit” actress. Day job working as a switchboard operator. Margie O’Brien, 30s+: Brassy, flippant, with a voice to match). As a show regular, plays the comic roles. She works days as a bookkeeper/typist/stenographer/receptionist. Sally Simpson, 20+: Seems sweet and gentle, but is a tough lady. As a show regular, plays all animals, babies, insects, little kids. Isadore “Buzz” Crenshaw, 24+: His life is his work. The “sound effectician” at WOV. Has a sharp wit and is always agreeable, whistling, and in a good mood.
