Seeking Cast for Staged Reading | April 5
Playwrights Local (http://playwrightslocal.org/) Seeks multiple cast members for a staged reading on Friday, April 5 at 7:00 pm THE CARDINAL A new play by Caroline Knecht Direction by Erik Andrews Dramaturgy by Lenora Inez Brown Synopsis The Cardinal is about a holiday dinner gone awry. It’s a story of legends, legacies, and the complicated bonds that tie family members together (or don’t). The entirety of the play takes place in four rooms of one house: the dining room, the front porch, the bathroom, and the basement. All scenes transpire on Thanksgiving 2016 in Ohio. Cast (All Roles are Open) ELAINA, 60: Accommodating, but a little out there. There are two sides to her character: who she was before this dinner and who she will be after. This is the night she snaps. SHEILA, 33: Resentful, tired, burdened. Smells like cigarettes and/or weed. Most likely clinically depressed. Definitely has a drinking problem. ROBERT, 29: Elaina’s only son. Assured of himself and his place in the world. Sees himself as the hero, someone who could solve everyone’s problems. DAWN, 27: Elaina’s second youngest. The Switzerland of the family. Has a sweet, neutral vibe. *MONA, late 50s: Bad bitch of The Afterlife. Ageless. Very short. She needs a loud voice and an expressive, explosive personality—she’s full of idiosyncrasies. *THE BARD: The song of the ages. Wiser than us all. Maybe an angel from heaven. *The same actress should play both these roles—but they are polar opposites. Logistics There will be 1-2 rehearsals in North Collinwood. The reading will be on Friday, April 5 at 7:00 pm at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts, 397 East 156th Street, Cleveland. This is an unpaid reading, but a great chance to be a part of a new play!
