NEW AUDITION TIMES for Playhouse Square's VELVETEEN, A New Musical
Playhouse Square is seeking non-Equity actors 18 years old and older for the final workshop presentation of: *VELVETEEN* Music and Lyrics by Molly Andrews-Hinders and Jordan Cooper Directed by Joanna May Cullinan Choreography by Jailyn Harris *AUDITION DATES:* Saturday, March 23rd - 10:00AM - 5:00PM Sunday, March 24th - 10:00AM - 5:00PM *CALLBACKS (by invitation):* Monday, March 25th – 6:00PM - 10:00PM Callbacks will include singing, dancing, and scene work *FOR INITIAL AUDITIONS:* All actors must prepare a 32-bar song cut from the modern musical theater cannon. To receive an audition slot, please send an email to *VelveteenCastingPSQ@gmail.com <VelveteenCastingPSQ@gmail.com>* to state your interest. This email should include your *headshot, resume and which audition day you'd like to attend*. After you submit your interest, you will then receive a specific audition time on the day you requested and validation for parking downtown with instructions on where to park and how to enter the Playhouse Square complex. *This is a paid position for Non-Equity Actors. Total stipend is $1600.* *REHEARSAL DATES**: Actors must be available for ALL rehearsal times.* Wednesday, March 27th - 6:00p-10:00p Wednesday, June 5th - Friday, June 7th - 10:00am-5:00p Monday, June 10th - Friday, June 14th - 10:00am-5:00p Monday June 17th - Wednesday, June 19th - 10:00am-5:00p *PERFORMANCE ON MIMI OHIO STAGE* Wednesday, June 19th at 7:00pm *PLEASE NOTE: *Following this final workshop performance, VELVETEEN will have a longer run this fall in Playhouse Square. Those cast in this workshop are not guaranteed roles in that run, but they will be strongly considered. To that end, please audition only if you are planning to be in Cleveland through the end of 2024. Additionally, if you're a college student in a local theatre or musical theatre program, please secure permission to audition for this project from your faculty *before* submitting your audition materials. *CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS - All roles are open: inclusive of all gender, race and ability.* All characters are part of the greater Ensemble and act as part of the whole. All actors support Ensemble Singing, Blocking and Shifting of our world. All actors must be strong movers, improvisers and singers. We are looking for 5 to 6 actors to fulfill the following roles: *LULU / POPPY* - Soprano - Strong Belt Needed - Lulu - Energetic, loving 9 year old struggling to get through school and dealing with grief. Recently moved in with Gran. Funny, inquisitive and trying to find their way. - Poppy - The youngest of the Bunny Family. Loud, outspoken, and funny. *GRAN / CLOVER / LAVENDER* - Mezzo - Strong Belt Needed - Gran - Lulu’s Grandmother. The narrator of our story. Warm, compassionate and doing their best to support Lulu. - Clover - A wise rocking horse that has always lived in the nursery. Centered and warm with a sparkle in their eye. - Lavender - The mother of the Bunny Family. Exhausted, empathetic and loving. *MICK / WHISK* - Alto - Mick - One half of the Puppy Brigade. An old toy of Lulu’s. Bossy, insecure and a bully in the nursery - Whisk - Oldest sibling of the Bunny Family. Fluff’s twin. Absentminded, curious and goofy. *VELVETEEN* - Tenor - Strong Belt Needed - The hero of our story. A new toy to the nursery and a new friend to Lulu. Velveteen knows there is more to life but is unsure how to get there. Warm, joyous and longing to be “real”. *NICK / FLUFF* - Tenor - Nick - One half of the Puppy Brigade. An old toy of Lulu’s. Sensitive, skeptical and a bully in the nursery. - Fluff - Second oldest sibling of the Bunny Family. Whisk’s twin. Brash, easily distracted and playful. *LIONEL / GREG* - Baritone - Lionel - A strict, by the book, military Lion. An old toy of Lulu’s. Loud, abrasive and full of hot air. - Greg - The father of the Bunny Family. Bland, accommodating and supportive.
