Akron Symphony Orchestra Auditions for WEST SIDE STORY, Concert Version
The Akron Symphony Orchestra announces auditions for a concert version (all the music, some of the dialogue, no choreography) of Leonard Bernstein’s WEST SIDE STORY, to be performed on May 4, 2019 at 8 PM at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron. Maestro Christopher Wilkins conducts; Craig Joseph stage directs; Ryan Bergeron music directs. Initial auditions will take place on Saturday, September 22nd, from 11 AM - 3 PM at First United Methodist Church, 263 E. Mill Street, in Akron. Callbacks, as necessary, will be held on Monday, September 24th, from 6 - 9 PM at the same location. All roles paid; Equity contracts available, if needed. An ethnically diverse cast is desired. Also, as this is a concert version with some latitude, we are NOT looking exclusively for twenty-somethings. Rehearsals will begin in early April, with a few music rehearsals a week, and will increase in frequency the week prior to May 4th for light staging and tech. Available roles are as follows: D - This character speaks dialogue. S - This character sings solo portions. T - This character sings as part of a group.
