"The Freedom Collection by KMONEE Opens July 17th at Chagrin Arts
*“The Freedom Collection” by Painter and Jewelry Artist KMonee Opens July 17th at Chagrin Arts* Chagrin Arts, located at 88 North Main Street in Chagrin Falls, OH is excited to announce the opening of the second exhibit in its “*Summer Trilogy of Cleveland Artists”* a series featuring three artists new to Chagrin Falls with works reflecting important societal and social justice issues. Meet the artist at the *Opening Reception on Sunday July 17 from 2 to 4 pm.* The show will be on display through August 19th. The Gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 am to 4 pm. *Artists Statement on the Exhibit: * Through her current artwork, KMonee illustrates and captures the essence of Freedom. The Freedom Collection tells her story coloring the implications of her experiences as a black woman in America. She hopes to ignite and encourage other artists to have open conversations centered on community issues of race, ethnicity, and gender giving momentum to the social diversity movement with a focus on positive progression with healing at the end goal. As she serves God through the arts, she hopes to revive, restore, and resurrect the voice of the artist. *About the Artist:* A native of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. KMonee is a graduate of Kent State University, where she received a Bachelor of the Fine Arts in Theater. KMonee began her career in the theater by performing at Porthouse Theater, and the Tri-City Cuyahoga Community Theater. She continued to cultivate her craft in the theatre performing regionally at Karamu House Theatre, Beck Center, Dobama Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, and Cleveland City Hall. As an Equity Member Candidate, in 2008, she was inducted into the Karamu Hall of Fame receiving the “Rising Star Award.” KMonee expanded her reach within the artist community and joined the Tower Press Artist Group as a visual artist. With the support of her village, she returned to her first love of painting and drawing. Her works entitled “Illustrations of a Colored Girl,” exhibited throughout the Greater Northeastern Area at Karamu Theater, George Forbes Gallery, Rebar, Tri-C Metro “A Time for Healing,” Trinity Lutheran Cathedral, Tower Press, Dobama Theatre, and Cleveland City Hall.To RSVP and to learn more about Chagrin Arts and additional programming visit www.chagrinarts.org.
