Cleveland Public Theatre announces 3 day “Research and Development” Workshop with Raymond Bobgan This winter, Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan will hold a free, 3 day Research and Development open session, in an effort to further his work and to broaden the pool of diverse artists involved in this exciting work. This 3 day workshop will both explore Raymond’s unique approach to devised theatre and serve as an opportunity for Raymond and artists to get to know each other’s work better for potential future projects. More on Research and Development Workshop: Application to participate in this workshop is open to all artists. Participants must attend all three sessions and can expect intense physical work, singing and voice work, and creation of original scenes and material. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore work that is both personal and meaningful. No partial participation is allowed. Workshop Dates and Times: Thursday, Dec 28th, 6-10pm Friday, December 29th, 2-10pm with dinner break Saturday, December 30th, 12 noon-12 midnight (with two long breaks). There will be a work presentation at approximately 11pm. Participants may invite one guest to that showing and will be joined by Raymond’s current collaborators. Raymond Bobgan specializes in directing new scripts and devising new performances through an ensemble‐driven process which has resulted in the creation of over thirty new performances. Raymond’s theatrical work has been seen in Romania, Brazil, Denmark, Serbia, Turkey, UK, and throughout the United States and Canada, and has been featured in The New York Times, Time Out New York, American Theatre Magazine, Canadian Theatre Review, Theatre Journal, and in Lisa Wolford’s book Grotowski’s Objective Drama Research. In 2014, Raymond received the Cleveland Arts Prize, the first recipient to win this honor in the discipline of theatre. Raymond is a two-time recipient of the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture’s Creative Workforce (for theatre and music composition) and he received an Ohio Arts Council Fellowship as a playwright. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Theatre Artist Residency Program of Pew Charitable Trust and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and American Theatre Magazine honored Raymond as one of 25 artists who would shape the future of theatre in their 25th Anniversary Edition. In 2016, Raymond received the Equality Ohio Ally of the Year Award and in 2017 he received the Governor’s Award for the Arts. While maintaining an active artistic life, Raymond serves as the Executive Artistic Director of Cleveland Public Theatre and has produced 100 full-productions, 40 of which were world premieres. He created CPT’s STEP, a program that employs low-income, inner-city teens to devise new plays that tour throughout Northeast Ohio and he co-created the Y‐Haven Theatre Project which engages formerly homeless men in theatre creation.
