Watch the trailer here Men of Granite: A Book into A Film Thursday July 16 at 7 pm. Beachwood Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library 25501 Shaker Blvd. MEN OF GRANITE, a book by Dan Manoyan, tells the story of the sons of immigrants who were Hungarian, Armenian, Yugoslavian, and Macedonian growing up in Granite City, Illinois in 1939. A teacher saw something in these struggling kids and introduced them to the Recreation Center, where they began to play basketball together. The town was divided economically and socially, and it was seemingly impossible for these kids to compete on the high school level until their coach allows them to play as a team. And against all odds, they win the 1940 Illinois State Championship in basketball. Meet the author, and the creative team that is turning the book into a movie starring William Hurt, Susan Sarandon and Kevin McHale ( of Glee fame) Valerie McCaffrey, Producer Christopher Harrington, Producer Guy Boudreaux, Producer David McElroy, Producer Patrick Stapleton, Line Producer Dwayne Johnson Cochran, Director Books will be available for purchase and signing.
