Mamai Theatre Company announces AEA / Non-AEA 2016 Season auditions AUDITION DATES - by appointment only Monday, January 11th, 6:00 – 9:00pm Tuesday, January 12th, 6:00 – 9:00pm Callbacks: Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17, by appointment between 10:00am - 4:00 pm Audition Location: The Cleveland Masonic Performing Arts Center, 3615 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. (Free parking on site in gated lot off of Euclid Avenue. Enter west-bound on Euclid at the red “Masonic Parking” sign after the Red Cross parking signs). AUDITION PREPARATION Sides will be emailed upon scheduling an audition appointment. Prepared monologues are welcome but not required. Bring a copy of headshot & resume for each director you are auditioning for. There is (1) AEA Special Appearance Agreement (Level I) contract available for each production. Non-AEA actors are paid. Host of a dinner party to celebrate her accomplishment. Manager of Nell and Win, other employees at the agency. Joyce’s sister. Angie’s putative aunt. Pope Joan/Win A woman who, disguised as a man, was believed to have reigned as Pope from 854 to 856, until she was outed by giving birth in the street during a Papal procession, after which she was stoned to death. A career woman who works at the employment agency helping other women find work. Isabelle Bird/Jeanine/Nell The first woman to be elected as Fellow to the Royal Geographical Society in 19th century England. An avid traveler, outspoken writer, and early photographer, she also suffered from nervous complaints. A secretary seeking a new position where she might have the opportunity to travel. A career woman who works at the employment agency helping other women find work. Lady Nijo/Kit/Shona A woman who, in the early 1300s, wrote a memoir of her life as the concubine of Emperor Go-Fukakusa and, after bearing several children by men other than the Emperor, a wandering buddhist nun. Angie’s younger friend who is not afraid of her period. A woman who lies about her age to get an exciting position in sales. Patient Griselda/Louise/Mrs. Kidd A fictional character from folklore who promises to obey her husband, the Marquis, in everything, and is rewarded after she patiently permits him to murder their two children. A woman seeking a better job after giving her life to her company. A woman advocating for her husband after he was passed up for a promotion in favor of Marlene. Dull Gret/Joyce Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting of a bad-tempered shrewish peasant woman, armed with a knife and in a suit of armor, who leads an army of women to storm the mouth of hell in search of more worldly possessions. Marlene’s sister and Angie’s putative mother. Waitress/Angie A waitress. Marlene’s putative niece. * * * LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN by Oscar Wilde Directed by Bernadette Clemens Production Dates: Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2:30pm, July 14-31, 2016 Venue: The Cleveland Masonic Performing Arts Center (De Molay Room) Rehearsal period: June 13-July 13 AVAILABLE ROLES out of a cast of 9 women, 7 men: Mrs. Erlynne 40s+, female, gorgeous. Has the grace and manner of an aristocrat, but is a fallen woman who has been absent from society for years to shield the reputation of her illegitimate daughter, the present Lady Windermere, with whom she has had no contact-- until now. Her motives remain unknown until the play’s climax. Lady Windermere 20s+, female, young bride of Lord Windermere and mother to his young child. Is the unwitting illegitimate daughter of Mrs. Erlynne, and enjoys a life of privilege thanks to that lady’s having given her up and placed her in society. Suspects her husband of cheating with this woman when she learns of their correspondence. Is a favorite of Lord Darlington’s. Lord Darlington 30s+, male, charming bachelor about town, friend of Lord Windermere. Has a special attraction to Lady Windermere, and offers her the opportunity to leave her husband when she believes him to be cheating on her. Lord Windermere 30s+, male, the perfect husband and citizen, happily married to a younger woman until she suspects him of having a mistress. Lord Augustus Lorton 50s+, male, gregarious, good-natured, wealthy. Develops an attraction for Mrs. Erlynne. Comrade of Lord Windermere’s. The Duchess of Berwick 50s+, female, aristocrat, matronly, gossiping, expert on scandal, solicitous of her daughter’s prospects but doesn’t necessarily value her, social acquaintance of Lady Windermere. Sir Roderick, 40s+, male, the woman-hater himself; a sexist, surly, miserly curmudgeon; Lady Smatter jilted him in his youth; brother of Eleonora. His sister Eleonora married Lady Smatter’s brother, Wilmot, against Sir Roderick and Lady Smatter’s wishes. Wilmot, 30s-40s+, male, raging, volatile; brother of Lady Smatter and long-estranged husband of Eleonora. He married Eleonora (sister of Sir Roderick) against Lady Smatter and Sir Roderick’s wishes.
