FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 6, 2026 MTC To Present The Ohio Premiere of Dear Evan Hansen at The Youngstown Playhouse! YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) will present the Ohio premiere of the hit Broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen at the Youngstown Playhouse (600 Playhouse Lane Youngstown, OH 44511) for a 2 weekend run, with performances running July 11-13, 17-19. Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen, who has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. As his web of well-intentioned lies begins to unravel, though, Evan is forced to confront the fact that the price of belonging may be far steeper than he bargained for. Director Joe Asente said he is excited that MTC was able to bring this premiere production to the stage, “We have been waiting for the release of this show for ages. This is one of, if not my personal favorite musical, and we feel so honored to be among the first in the nation to produce this show after its Broadway run. This show is so powerful and the message it sends is so important for our times. We can not wait to share it with Youngstown audiences. We are also excited to announce that this production will feature a live orchestra, which we are really excited to add to this amazing production.” Asente continued that Dear Evan Hansen truly has something for everyone, “This story is incredibly powerful. The story of Evan Hansen teaches us that you are never alone. When you feel like all hope is lost, when you feel like nothing in your life could change for the better, things will always get better. Despite the fact that we are more connected now than ever, it has never been easier to feel isolated and alone, especially as a young person. Even if you have never been on social media in your life, this show has something for you. Everyone has made a mistake and had a hard time figuring out how to navigate the consequences, and Evan's story is certainly one that almost anyone can relate to. Through its Tony Award Winning score, Dear Evan Hansen shines a light on those who feel alone, and proves that even in the darkest hours of someone’s life, there is always someone there to help.” The musical, written by Benj Pasak and Justin Paul recently enjoyed an extremely successful Broadway run and several national tours. MTC is among the first community theatres in the nation to produce the show. Asente said, “This is easily one of the best new musicals of the last decade.
