Cleveland Play House Audition Notice Seeking Young Performers, Ages 8-14, to appear in the play ANNIE Book by Thomas Meehan | Music by Charles Strouse| Lyrics by Martin Charnin | In-person auditions will be held by appointment only: Saturday, August 1, 2026 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Cleveland Play House Fifth Floor, CSU/Middough Building 1901 E. 13th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44114 (Street metered parking and surface lots adjacent to the building are available.) Cleveland Play House will hold auditions for young performers on Saturday, August 1, 2026 for their production of the iconic musical, Annie. Young performers, ages 8-14, will be asked to prepare and memorize a short monologue and a small selection of a song in the style of the show for their audition. Please bring the sheet music for the chosen song. The monologue may be from an age-appropriate play or film. (Selections from a monologue book are acceptable.) ABOUT THE SCHEDULE: * Rehearsals begin Nov. 3 and are held on weekday afternoons and evenings, as well as on weekends, Tuesdays through Sundays. (A rehearsal schedule will detail when each actor is needed to attend.) * During the week of Nov. 22, technical rehearsals on the Allen Theatre stage for the actors will take place during instructional school hours. (There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.) * Performances run Nov. 28 – Dec. 27. Evening performances run Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm; afternoon matinee performances are on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm; two morning matinee performances are on Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 at 10:30 am; and one weekday matinee on Dec. 23 at 1:30 p.m. * Please note that young performers will miss approximately 11 school days for rehearsals and performances. Current known dates include November 3, 18, 24, 25, 27; December 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 16. AVAILABLE ROLES FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS: * ANNIE: (female identifying, ages 10-13, any race) a complex, tough, streetwise urchin who is surprisingly vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become most important to her: her newfound "family." * THE ORPHANS: (female identifying, ages 8-14, any race) young girls from the orphanage that are neglected, vulnerable, but very honest and lovable. Seeking SIX (6) young performers who are excellent singers and have great character expression to play the follow roles: MOLLY - the youngest and smallest, KATE - the second-to-youngest, TESSIE - the over-emotional one, PEPPER - the toughest, JULY - the quietest, DUFFY - the oldest. * SWINGS: (female identifying, ages 8-14, any race) Seeking TWO (2) versatile young performers with excellent musical and spatial memory. These are strictly off-stage tracks responsible for swinging multiple positions. NOTE FOR CAREGIVERS: This is a paid opportunity. Young actors will be required to miss in-school instructional hours for daytime rehearsals and performances. Roles in this production are open to young actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, and abilities.
