Underground Railroad Program

Background

Hale Farm and Village staff worked closely for over two years with an =
Advisory Team, made up of community leaders, academics, school officials =
and others, before delivering a well received program to schools and the =
general public in the spring of 2000.

Program Content

Visitors play the part of runaway slaves experiencing a series of =
vignettes that passes through a slave sale, escape and attempted =
recapture, giving them insight into the issues surrounding slavery and =
the life of a fugitive slave in the mid 1800's.=20

Staff Hiring

No previous performance experience is needed - just the ability to play =
a part in an extremely interactive program. The vignettes are scripted =
and costuming is provided.

Our first choice for staff will be those who can work all of the =
practices and all of the programs (evening or day) and those who most =
closely match the physical characteristics written for the characters =
of: slave broker, slave buyer, overseer, fugitive slave, free slave, =
slave catcher and Quaker mother and father.=20

Interviews will be held in September and hiring begins October 1.=20

Evening Dates (Public Programs):

November 1,2,3; 8,9,10; 15,16,17 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday; aprox. =
