Attention Cleveland Theatre Community!

Feel the need to laugh...

...or feel the need to be moved?

Either way, CPT is where you need to
be this weekend.

This October, Cleveland Public Theatre is bringing you some of the biggest
and most exciting performers from around the globe.

It all starts this weekend with a not to be missed double bill of James
Lecesne in Word of Mouth directed by Vagina Monologues creator Eve Ensler
and teatro la fragua, a performance company from Honduras performing the
powerful Romero de las Americas, which tells the story of Archbishop Oscar
Romero's life and assassination by El Salvadoran death squads. (For more
information, see below)

Coming up next week is NEA bad boy, Tim Miller in Glory Box (October 11-14)
followed by Jeffery Roberson as Varla Jean Merman, the purported love child
of Ethel Merman and Ernest Borgnine, in the The Very Worst of Varla Jean
Merman (October 25-28) as well as the world famous San Francisco Mime Troupe
in Eating It, a sci-fi musical about genetically modified agriculture.

The Word about the Word of Mouth

Word of Mouth uses lightening quick changes to portray a total of 13
different characters in telling the story of Frankie, a 30-ish
“communications” expert who lives in his Brooklyn house with his mother.
While repairing a short-wave radio, Frankie discovers he can use the radio
to communicate with the dead. Soon widows throughout the neighborhood area
arrive to ask him to raise their late husbands on his ham radio.

Word of Mouth opens on Thursday, October 4, 2001 and runs through Sunday,
October 7, 2001 in Cleveland Public Theatre’s Mainstage Theatre located at
6415 Detroit Avenue. Performances times are at 8:00 pm Thursday through
Saturday and at 3:00pm on Sunday. Admission is $15.00 for regular tickets
and $10.00 for students and seniors. Word of Mouth is presented as part of
Cleveland Public Theatre’s Gay Artist Series. Discounted tickets are
available for the rest of the series. Please call 216.631.2727 for tickets
and more information.

The Word about teatro la fragua

Romero de las Américas tells the story of the three-year term of Oscar
Romero as Archbishop of San Salvador and his assassination on March 24,
1980. It is a poetic and powerful interpretation of this key event which was
a catalyst to the religious, political and social explosions that shook all
of Central America in the early 1980s. The play insists that Archbishop
Romero is not an historical figure but rather a figure whose spirit must
permeate our present and inspire our future. In Cleveland, the play will be
performed in Spanish with projected English supertitles.
Romero de las Américas runs for two days only on Saturday, October 6, 2001
at 8:00 pm and Sunday, October 7, 2001 at 6:00 pm at Cleveland Public
Theatre’s Gordon Square Theatre located at 6409 Detroit Avenue. Admission is
$15.00 for regular tickets and $10.00 for students and seniors. Call
216.631.2727 for tickets and more information.
