Artist Series, please call 216.631.2727.
Tim Miller has received rave reviews throughout North America, Australia and
Europe for his one man show Glory Box. A controversial performer and queer
activist who is hailed for his passion and wit, Miller delivers a unique
blend of intimate personal storytelling, astute political commentary, and
provocative, juicy humor.

Taking its name from the Australian term for hope chest, Glory Box is a
funny, sexy, and politically charged exploration of same-sex marriage and
the struggle for immigration rights for lesbian and gay bi-national couples.
Spanning from Miller's hilarious grade school playground battles over
wanting to marry another boy to the bittersweet adult challenges of being in
a relationship with his Australian lover Alistair, Glory Box leads the
audience on an intense and humorous journey into the complexity of the human
heart that knows no boundary.

Says Miller, "I want the piece to conjure for the audience a new glory box,
a new kind of hope chest, that can be an alternative site for the placing of
memories, hopes, and dreams of gay people's extraordinary potential for
love." Glory Box has been embraced by gay and straight audiences alike
throughout the world.
Miller gained notoriety in the U.S. along with Karen Finley, Holly Hughes
and John Fleck when their 1990 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants
were rescinded under political pressure from the Bush White House and the
radical right, due to the gay-positive content of the performers' work.
Miller and the three other artists known as the NEA 4 successfully sued the
United States Government for violation of their rights to free speech.
(Cleveland Public Theatre has proudly presented Hughes, Finley and Miller on
its stage in recent years.)
