MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL
Jekyll & Hyde: The Broadway Phenomenon that ran 1,587 performances and
generated an unprecedented 1,587 standing ovations is now coming to Akron,
Ohio! Just released from its successful four year Broadway run, we at Actors
Repertory Company of Ohio are pleased to offer this incredible tale of the
epic battle between good and evil.
The musical Jekyll & Hyde, is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story
about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a
murderous counterpart. Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own darker
side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th-century London as the
savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.
Jekyll & Hyde is pure pulse-pounding theatre, with that same macabre
combination of fun and fright that fuels such classics as Les Miserables and
The Phantom of the Opera. Its lush, romantic score features the songs This is
the Moment, Someone Like You, Alive, Dangerous Game and Once Upon A Dream.
.
SHORT SYNOPSIS
Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of
Man's evil natura from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his
own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th-century London as
the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.
An evocative tale of romance and the epic battle between good and evil,
Jekyll & Hyde brings new life to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story. A
whirlwind odyssey pitting man against himself is set into motion when the
brilliant Dr. Jekyll's medical experiment backfires, giving life to Edward
Hyde, his evil alter ego.Jekyll & Hyde The Musical was conceived for the
stage by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn. The show debuted at Houston's Tony
Award-winning Alley Theatre, breaking box office records, and played to
sold-out houses, receiving acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
A recording based on that production was released and yielded the hits
"Someone Like You" and "This Is The Moment." That recording has sold over
150,000 copies to date. In 1995, Houston's Theatre Under the Stars and
Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater mounted a subsequent production that resulted in
an additional 2 CD recording on Atlantic Records.Jekyll's success story
gained momentum when stars such as Liza Minnelli and The Moody Blues started
performing and recording songs from the show.
The show's songs have since been featured at such major events as The Super
Bowl and The Olympics. A spectacular new version of the complete score was
subsequently recorded by Atlantic Records, which has sold more than 100,00
double CD's and continues to sell briskly. With many exciting changes to the
score, Jekyll & Hyde fans can anticipate a Broadway cast recording to be
released shortly after the show's opening.
Tickets are $20.00 for adult admission and $15.00 for student groups.
