Cleveland, Ohio - MN2 Productions will premiere its
latest dance-theatre piece, Shadows of Our Forgotten
Ancestors with three performances at the
Gordon Square Theatre,Friday through Sunday, January
25th through the 27th, 2002. Friday and Saturday
performances at 8 p.m. with Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Shadows of our Forgotten Ancestors is a tale of fate,
destiny and the triumph of love over death. Many
consider it to be the Romeo and Juliet of Ukraine,
with Ivan and Marichka as the star-crossed lovers
coming from two feuding families. But what would have
happened had Romeo survived and married another while
being haunted by his beloved Juliet, yearning for his
love, moving towards a completion of his destiny to
be with her. This is explored against the backdrop of
the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. It is a timeless
tale formed before time in a world bound by ritual and
custom. A world where the storms are subsided with
the prayers of a sorcerer, where the very water and
mountains play a sweeping role as a stable yet ever
changing force of life, a world where true love will
have to survive against family struggles, war, grief,
and even death in order to bring the souls of
two lovers together.
With a book by Nadia Tarnawsky based on the novel
by Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky, and a musical soundtrack by
Alexander Fedoriouk and Vasyl Geker performed by some
of the strongest musicians in their field, this
bilingual tale is brought to vibrant life through the
brilliant choreography of Sarah Morrison of
MorrisonDance, Natalie Kapeluck of the Mary Miller
Modern Dance Company and artistic director of the
Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, and Roman Lewkowicz,
artistic director of the Obrij Folk Dance Ensemble,
NY, and former dancer/choreographer with the Dukla
Ukrainian Dance Company Presov, Slovakia (Ukrainian
National Theater of Slovakia) with the adept staging
of
Michael D. Flohr. This production has been
generously
funded through an Artist?s Project Grant by the Ohio
Arts Council and with the support of the Ukrainian
Museum and Archives of Cleveland.
