Stephen Sondheim's "ANYONE CAN WHISTLE" January 10-20, 2002
FINAL WEEKEND!!
Last chance to see this RARELY PERFORMED SHOW, Stephen Sondheim's "Anyone Can
Whistle" directed by local Equity actor Patrick Janson at St. Joseph Academy.
The "Sondheim Review" tells us that we are the ONLY high school, community
or professional theatre that will be performing this show in the entire
country in this three-month time span, so don't miss it!
"Anyone Can Whistle" was a wildly experimental show that lasted only 9
performances on Broadway in 1964 (it began the stage career of Angela
Lansbury), but there were a few wise critics that felt that the show was
"uniquely wonderful, but way ahead of its time." Audiences were expecting a
similar output like Arthur Laurents' and Sondheim's two previous shows, "West
Side Story" and "Gypsy". A New York concert version was performed in 1995,
drawing new attention to its specialness. It is one of Sondheim's most
challenging scores (it's as crazy and complicated as its plot) and it's a
wildly CRAZY show not to be missed by any theatre fan!!
The performance dates are January 10-20, 2002. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays
and Sundays at 7:30pm (no Saturday show due to bingo!) and there are also
Sunday matinees at 2:00pm. St. Joseph Academy is located on Cleveland's West
Side at 3430 Rocky River Drive. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for
students and seniors, and can be purchased at the door. Call 216-251-6788
x248 for more information.
