Subject: [Grassroots-list] Amendment to Increase NEA Funds by $10
Million Passes!

To Arts Presenters' Grassroots Network:

Just minutes ago, the full House approved the Slaughter (D-NY), Dicks
(D-WA), Horn (R-CA) and Johnson (R-CT) amendment to fund the NEA at $126
million during FY 2003!!! This amount represents a $10 million increase
in funds for the agency's Challenge America program. The amendment also
included a $5 million increase for the National Endowment for the
Humanities. The amendment passed by a vote of 234 to 192!

As always, it is highly likely that their will be amendments offered by
NEA opponents to decrease this funding. So stay tuned.=20

In addition, when the FY 2003 Interior Appropriations bill is complete,
I will issue a very detailed report on the NEA debate and the germane
amendments.=20
