Announces Cast for THE CHOSEN
by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok (based on the book by Chaim Potok)

    (September 5, 2002, Akron, Ohio...For Immediate Release) Weathervane=20
Playhouse Chosen, a family drama by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok revolving=20
around the friendship of two Jewish boys.  The story is based on the novel b=
y=20
Chaim Potok.  The play will run September 18 - October 6, 2002, Thursdays=20
through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (The production will=
=20
have two low-cost PREVIEW performances on Wednesday & Thursday, September 18=
 &
 19.  Official opening night is Friday, September 20.) This play is suitable=
=20
for general audiences.=20
When Danny Saunders, the son of a Hassidic rabbi, injures Reuven Malter, the=
=20
son of a noted scholar, during a heated baseball game, a unique friendship i=
s=20
born. The friendship lasts not only through the struggles of the religious=20
political climate at the time, World War II, but also survives their fathers=
'=20
differing views on politics, religion, and father-son relationships. =20
Sean McConaha directs this production. McConaha is the Director of Education=
=20
at Weathervane Playhouse.  His directing credits include Weathervane's recen=
t=20
productions of The Glass Menagerie, The King of the Kosher Grocers and Romeo=
=20
and Juliet, Cleveland Public Theatre productions of Junk Bonds (a world=20
premiere) and Sam Shepard's Cowboy Mouth, as well as independent productions=
=20
of Hopscotch, Fool for Love and Christie in Love. He also co-directed A=20
Comedy of Errors and The Merry Wives of Windsor at Stan Hywet Summer=20
Shakespeare.  He is co-founder of the Prodigal Theatre Group and is a=20
free-lance actor and director throughout Northeastern Ohio.

Richard is a member of Weathervane's Board of Trustees and has retired from=20
his position of 22 years as Director of Patron Services for the Cleveland=20
Orchestra.  He has been seen in productions at The University of Akron,=20
Dobama Theatre, Berea Summer Theater and the Cleveland Play House, most=20
recently in As Bees in Honey Drown at Weathervane Playhouse.

Simon Siegel    Young Reuven Malter Northfield
Simon is a junior at Akron's Firestone High School.  He has spent his summer=
=20
juggling at Six Flags.  He was seen at Weathervane in Our Town and Joseph an=
d=20
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  He has also appeared at Coach House,=20
Western Reserve Playhouse and at Hudson Players.

Michael earned a B.A. in mathematics and psychology at Kent State University=

and is a member of MENSA, the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society.  He is=

a frequent player on the Weathervane stage: The Mousetrap, Company and in=20
Born Yesterday.


Sean McConaha   David Malter    Canton
Sean is also the director of this production.  As a performer, he has been=20
seen as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Stan Hywet Hall and has=20
performed with the Magical Theatre Company as a member of the acting ensembl=
e=20
for the past five years.

Sean Derry  Danny Saunders  Stow
Sean is a self-employed videographer with acting credentials in New York=20
City-on stage at the Mary McArthur Theatre, Lester Martin Theatre and Mannie=
=20
Greenfield Theatre.  He has studied acting at the American Academy of=20
Dramatic Arts in New York City, the Bobbie Chance Studio in Los Angeles,=20
Otterbein University and English and Education at The University of Akron.
