CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE PRESENTS

Remembering The Dead – Poets Reflect on 9/11

Wednesday, September 11, 2002

5-7pm Public Square

In conjunction with the world premiere production of Blue Sky Transmission:
A Tibetan Book of the Dead, Cleveland Public Theatre announces a special
event entitled Remembering The Dead – Poets Reflect on 9/11. At 5:00pm on
September 11, 2002, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York
City and Washington DC, local poets will gather on the Northwest quadrant of
Public Square in Downtown Cleveland. Each will read works dealing with
personal reactions to the terrorist attacks of September 11 as well as the
more general themes of death, the afterlife and rebirth. The public is
encouraged to contribute their own spoken word to this event. The list of
local poets include: Daniel Bourne, Daniel Gray-Kontar, Ray McNiece, Major
Reagan, Michael Salinger, Amy Bracken Sparks, Daniel Thompson and Mary
Weems. It is CPT’s intention that these readings, with the underlying theme
of a thoughtful non-sensationalist approach to death, will help our
community further heal from these attacks. The event is free and open to
the public and will run from 5pm to 7pm on the Northwest Quadrant of Public
Square. For more information, please call 216.631.2727.

Remembering The Dead is part of a series of lectures, forums and discussions
that will examine death from many different perspectives: spiritual,
emotional, literary and artistic held in conjunction with Cleveland Public
Theatre’s production of Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead.
As the flagship for CPT’s 2002-2003 season, Resident Director Raymond Bobgan
will lead a company of highly skilled and experienced performers from across
North America in what promises to be a thoughtful, engaging and
transformative production about death and the afterlife. “Our intent is to
explore how examining death more deeply may help us live our lives more
fully, “ says Levin. All of these forums, panels and discussions will take
place at various locations around Cleveland and are free and open to the
general public.

“By offering such a breadth of perspectives, we intend to reach as many
aspects of the Cleveland community as possible,” says Levin. “I think we
all have that moment in our life where we confront our mortality for the
first time. After that we tend to forget it. But the reality of it is
always present. Through this confrontation, we seek to create a deeper
awareness of death that will spur us to virtuous and intelligent action,
liberate us from fear, and cause us to better our daily lives.” For more
information, please call 216.631.2727.

Cleveland Public Theatre’s The Final Act and Beyond is made possible with
the

generous support of The Ohio Humanities Council, as well as Meet the
Composer, the Cleveland Public Library, Mac’s Back Paperbacks, the Visiting
Nurses of Cleveland Hospice and the many individuals who support CPT.
