Steven Smith, Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra,
Makes His Oberlin Podium Debut =3F Concert to be Broadcast Live on WCLV

Please tune in on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. to WCLV (104.9 FM) in the 
Cleveland area, or wclv.com on the Internet, to listen to a live broadcast 
of the Oberlin podium debut of Steven Smith. Mr. Smith, assistant conductor =

of The Cleveland Orchestra, has recently joined the Oberlin faculty as 
Associate Professor of Conducting and Director of the Oberlin Conservatory 
Orchestras.  He will conduct the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra in a program 
featuring Aaron Copland's Three  Latin-American Sketches, Wolfgang Amadeus 
Mozart's Symphony No. 39,  and Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 
with Peter Tak=E1cs, professor of pianoforte, as soloist.


Oberlin's Upcoming Hymn Festival to be
Featured on WCPN's "Around Noon" Sept. 23


Cleveland radio's WCPN (90.3 FM) will feature Oberlin's hymn festival, 
"Songs for the Journey,"  on its popular live program, " Around Noon."  The =

program, which airs weekdays from noon  to 1 p.m., will feature the 
festival on Monday, September 23, during the second half of the hour. 
Organist and choral director John Ferguson '63 will talk with host Dee 
Perry by telephone from his home in Minnesota. Two other hymn festival 
planners will
be interviewed in the studio - Oberlin College's Protestant chaplain 
Manfred Lassen and Mary Louise VanDyke, a 1947 Oberlin graduate who is 
librarian of the Dictionary of American Hymnology  and an Oberlin affiliate =

scholar. Songs for the  Journey takes place Sunday, September 29, at 4 
p.m. in Finney Chapel.
