Red Hen Productions, Cleveland's Feminist Theatre, is proud to present the
Ohio premier of Waving Goodbye by Jamie Pachino October 3-26, 2002

The Play: The story of Lily Blue, a 17-year old photographer who loses her
father in a mountain climbing accident, and must spend her 17th year with the
mother who abandoned her. Taking place in the past and the present, Waving
Goodbye is also about loss, grief, change, making art, being stalled, wishing
things were different, moving forward, first love, not turning into your
mother, and those irrevocable moments after which nothing is the same.

"Jamie Pachino's new work is a beautifully written portrait of loss, rage,
change, and the terror--and joy--of trusting another person in the wake of
personal cataclysm. ... Pachino writes from the gut and heart in a way that's
utterly refreshing. ...an intriguing work that deserves to be heard. " - The
Reader, Kerry Reid.

·Winner, Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays production grant, 2001
·Winner, Women at the Door Festival, Famous Door Theatre, Chicago, 2000
·Nominated, Chicago's Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work, 2002
(pending)

Production Design: If you're accustomed to thinking of Red Hen shows as having
simple, utilitarian sets, you'll have to revise your assumptions for this one.
Jenny Hitmar has designed an icy mountain and New York loft apartment, with
Leslie Moynihan's dreamscape lighting. Cat Kenney adds color as the costume
designer, and Theresa Krueger storms as sound designer. Amy Shuman serves as
technical director, with a bevy of artists and technical advisors for what is
surely our most challenging and beautiful technical show to date. Directed by
Red Hen's Artistic Director, Harriett R. Logan.

The Cast: Our dream ensemble includes comic master Allen Branstein in a
powerful role as the mountain-climbing father, while Cat Kenney joins us for
her third consecutive Red Hen show as the sculptor mother. Lee Jacobs makes
her Cleveland debut as Lily, our 17-year old photographer protagonist, and
Joshua Johnston also makes his debut as Lily's first love. Rose Leininger,
active on other Cleveland stages, makes her debut with Red Hen as the
wise-cracking art gallery owner, Perry.

The Playwright: Jamie Pachino is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter
with national and international credits. Her plays have been produced in four
countries, commissioned, published, and honored. Two of her plays, The Return
to
Morality and Aurora's Motive have been optioned for the screen. Jamie has been
named a winner of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays production
grant, twice nominated for the Osborn Award (American Theatre Critics
Association), and invited to present her work at the Women Playwrights
Conference in Athens, Greece in 2000. She has served on the faculty of
Northwestern University, Columbia College, National Louis University, and the
Chicago Academy for the Arts.

Dear friends -

Forgive the late notice, but I just received word that the director of The
Dealer, Molly Richards, is willing to accept auditions by appointment and
is also willing to be somewhat flexible with rehearsal scheduling - given
the difficulties of adults and teens who are juggling multiple shows as the
holidays approach.

Please - if you've been shying away from this production due to scheduling
problems but are unreservedly able to commit to the show dates - which are
Nov 14 and 15 at 10 am ; Nov 15 and 16 at 8 pm - reconsider joining us!

Here are the details. Your support of our writing students is deeply
appreciated.
