Tongue-in-Groove
Poetry/Music Jam
The Return of Legendary Cleveland Poet Daniel Thompson
At the
Powerhouse Pub and Cabaret

Ray McNiece opens a new music/poetry performance series at the PowerHouse
Pub and Cabaret in the Powerhouse on the West bank of the Flats with the
return of Daniel Thompson, the Walt Whitman of the Cleveland Poetry Scene as
Featured Performer. Earlier this year Daniel was diagnosed with
life-threatening lymphoma, but he's raring to ride again!
In the tradition of Langston Hughes and D.A. Levy, Thompson is truly a
peoples' poet. His longtime commitment to helping the homeless and other
social justice issues have provided a standard for activist poetics. Also a
fine lyric poet, he will be performing with Tongue-in-Groove, the house band
for the new series, which will perform an opening set of new material with
Ray McNiece. The band will also be available for all open mic performers.
After Daniel's Feature there will be a poetry slam with music. Winner
qualifies for a slot in the Cleveland City Championship in May that will
select a team for the National Competition in Chicago next Summer. The
Tongue-in-Groove series hopes to bring musicians and poets of all styles,
disciplines and aesthetics together to present an entertaining and
enlightening show for the diverse Cleveland audience. Check it out. The
Tongue-in-Groove will be on the first Sunday of every month at 7pm. Admission
will be $5 opening night with $3 for performing poets, Poetry Slam
($20prize).
