Duane Edwards - The Confession
Ron Lazzeretti - Flowers
Michael Ojeda - Lana's Rain
Bruce Terris - Flying

As part of a shorts program called "Illinois' Own" - Ron Lazerretti, Bruce=20
Terris, and Duane Edwards, will have their shorts screened among other short=
s=20
produced in Illinois.=20

"Removed from the bright lights and red carpets, there=E2=80=99s an approach=
 to=20
filmmaking that is truly Illinois=E2=80=99 Own. These seven varied films sho=
wcase=20
some of our homegrown talents. In Sock It to Me (USA, D: Anna Christopher, 1=
5=20
min.), a mother and daughter face off in the cutthroat world of competitive=20
sock monkey art. Blood Drinkers (USA, D: Rusty Nails, 3 min.) reminds of the=
=20
ever-present threat to America=E2=80=94zombies and rock n roll. With wacky s=
ound=20
effects and sight gags, Doggnapp=E2=80=99d (USA, D: Pat Healy, 16 min.) is m=
uch like=20
the live-action dog theft movie Hanna-Barbera never made. Puppetry (USA, D:=20
Caton Volk, 15 min) takes a documentary look at creation and performance in=20
Chicago=E2=80=99s puppetry scene. It=E2=80=99s Christmas in Chicago, a time=20=
for awakening=20
the spirit in The Confession (USA, D: Duane Edwards, 13 min). Flying (USA, D=
:=20
Bruce Terris, 12 min.) shows a frazzled businessman waiting to board a plane=
,=20
until he meets a stranger and suspects that this flight might be unlike any=20
other. A random act of romantic whimsy takes on a life of its own in Flowers=
=20
(USA, D: Ron Lazzeretti, 21 min.)."=20

IFP/Chicago Michael Ojeda's feature film, LANA'S RAIN, is also being feature=
d=20
as part of the Film Festival

Lana's Rain," a sprawling Chicago independent film directed by first time=20
director Michael Ojeda, will have its World Premiere at the 2002 Chicago=20
International Film Festival. The film will play in the World Cinema section=20
which presents the best from established masters and exciting new=20
visionaries. "Lana's Rain" is the only Chicago independent feature length=20
film chosen to participate in this year's festival. It will have three=20
showings at the Landmark Century Cinemas on the following dates:

Lana's Rain" is a look into the culture of outsiders and what it means to be=
=20
a refugee in America today, telling the explosive tale of a Balkan brother=20
and sister forced to survive by any means possible on the fringes of=20
contemporary Chicago. It's a different type of first time feature with a=20
scope and reach seldom attempted by local filmmakers with limited resources.=
=20
Working with a huge canvas, the visceral "Lana's Rain" was shot on two=20
continents in two languages using 78 locations over a three year production=20
span. The majority of the film is set in Chicago and filmed in numerous=20
locations on the streets of Chicago, including old Maxwell street, Uptown an=
d=20
the South Side.

"Lana's Rain" is the first feature length motion picture produced by Reignin=
g=20
Pictures, a Chicago based production company founded in 1996 by partners=20
Michael Ojeda, Joel Goodman (producer) and Jeffery Dillard (executive=20
producer). The film was shot in Super 16mm and being blown up to 35mm in the=
=20
Technicolor Immersion Process for the festival showings. John Iltis and Davi=
d=20
Sikich of Iltis Sikich Associates are acting as the Producers Representative=
s=20
on behalf of Reigning Pictures. =20

IFP/Chicago and the Gene Siskel Film Center present

An Evening with director Guillermo Del Toro and a=20

A Question and Answer session will follow the screening of the film. For mor=
e=20
information and to purchase tickets for the screening, call the Film Center=20
at 312-846-2600 (general information) or 312-846-2800 (Hotline). Admission=
:=20
$4 for members of the Film Center and IFP, $8 for non-members =20

Mr. Del Toro will also be holding a workshop from 3 pm - 5 pm on Friday, the=
=20
18th, at the Gene Siskel Film Center. During the workshop, Mr. Del Toro will=
=20
talk more in-depth about his career and offer advice to local filmmakers.=20
Admission is free for IFP/Chicago members to the Workhop and $10 for=20
non-members. To RSVP for the workshop, please call 312-435-1825.

"Devil's Backbone is a mournful and beautiful new ghost story by Guillermo=20
del Toro, understands that most ghosts are sad, and are attempting not to=20
frighten us but to urgently communicate something that must be known so that=
=20
they can rest.The film takes place in Spain in the final days of the Civil=20
War. Franco's fascists have the upper hand, and in a remote orphanage the=20
children of left-wing families await the end. In the courtyard, a huge=20
unexploded bomb rests, nose-down, like a sculpture. 'They say it's switched=20
off,' says one of the kids, 'but I don't believe it. Put your head against=20
it. You can hear it ticking.' The Mexican director del Toro is a master of=20
dark atmosphere, and the places in his films seem as frightening as the=20
plots. He is only 36; he began with Cronos (1994), the story of an antiques=20
dealer who invents a small, elegant golden beetle that sinks its claws into=20
the flesh and imparts immortality. In 1997 he made a Hollywood film, Mimic,=20
starring Mira Sorvino and Jeremy Northam... Devil's Backbone has been=20
compared to The Others and has the same ambition and intelligence, but is=20
more compelling and even convincing."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

 to participate in this year's festival. It will have three showings at the=20=
Landmark Century Cinemas on the following dates:<BR>
<BR>
Lana's Rain" is a look into the culture of outsiders and what it means to be=
 a refugee in America today, telling the explosive tale of a Balkan brother=20=
and sister forced to survive by any means possible on the fringes of contemp=
orary Chicago. It's a different type of first time feature with a scope and=20=
reach seldom attempted by local filmmakers with limited resources. Working w=
ith a huge canvas, the visceral "Lana's Rain" was shot on two continents in=20=
two languages using 78 locations over a three year production span. The majo=
rity of the film is set in Chicago and filmed in numerous locations on the s=
treets of Chicago, including old Maxwell street, Uptown and the South Side.<=

"Lana's Rain" is the first feature length motion picture produced by Reignin=
g Pictures, a Chicago based production company founded in 1996 by partners M=
ichael Ojeda, Joel Goodman (producer) and Jeffery Dillard (executive produce=

"<I>Devil's Backbone</I> is a mournful and beautiful new ghost story by Guil=
lermo del Toro, understands that most ghosts are sad, and are attempting not=
 to frighten us but to urgently communicate something that must be known so=20=
that they can rest.The film takes place in Spain in the final days of the Ci=
vil War. Franco's fascists have the upper hand, and in a remote orphanage th=
e children of left-wing families await the end. In the courtyard, a huge une=
xploded bomb rests, nose-down, like a sculpture. 'They say it's switched off=
,' says one of the kids, 'but I don't believe it. Put your head against it.=20=
You can hear it ticking.' The Mexican director del Toro is a master of dark=20=
atmosphere, and the places in his films seem as frightening as the plots. He=
 is only 36; he began with <I>Cronos</I> (1994), the story of an antiques de=
aler who invents a small, elegant golden beetle that sinks its claws into th=
e flesh and imparts immortality. In 1997 he made a Hollywood film, <I>Mimic<=
/I>, starring Mira Sorvino and Jeremy Northam... <I>Devil's Backbone</I> has=
 been compared to <I>The Others</I> and has the same ambition and intelligen=
ce, but is more compelling and even convincing."<BR>
