True to form for Independent Pictures=A1=A6 mission to aid struggling=20
filmmakers hone their craft, this year=A1=A6s Ohio Independent Film=20
Festival includes a documentary workshop in addition to a week-long=20
program of innovative shorts and feature-length films.

The Sugar Pictures Documentary Workshop not only provides insights on=20
technique but also clues participants into hard-won lessons on=20
researching, producing, fund-raising, and the marketing of non-
fiction films from professional filmmakers.

Instructor Thom Powers, owner of New York-based Sugar Pictures which=20
has produced projects for HBO, CINEMAX, and PBS, helps those=20
interested in pursuing a career in documentary film or simply more=20
professional video projects by focusing on the fundamentals from=20
preproduction to distribution.

Thom Powers will take his real world experience on approaching=20
foundations and broadcasters for support, how to write a good=20
proposal, how to conduct an interview, budgeting tips, and more.

This course, a compacted version of a 12-week course Thom Powers=20
teaches at New York University=A1=A6s School of Professional Studies=20
opens the festival=A1=A6s week of programming on Saturday, November 2,=20

Independent Pictures supports emerging media artists and the=20
exhibition of their films and video projects to a wider audience=20
through the Ohio Independent Film Festival and other programs such as=20
