right here in Cleveland-The Bratislava Conservatory Chamber Choir... At
TRI-C November 20th & 21st... Don't miss this opportunity!

PRESS RELEASE -
Cleveland to host performances of internationally recognized Conservatory
Chamber Choir from Bratislava, Slovakia.

The International Community Council of Cleveland will combine with the
Cleve-land-Bratislava Sister Cities organization in presenting the
internationally recognized and acclaimed Bratislava Conservatory Choral
Ensemble at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern and Western Campuses on the
evenings of November 20-21, respectively.
The choir will be appearing in Cleveland as part of a U.S. tour, in which
performances are scheduled for New York City, Philadelphia, Rutgers
University, Annapolis, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, with a highlight
appearance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D. C.
A sample of reviewer's comments include the following: "This is a great
choir. which has been the proving ground for many great Slovak singers like
Peter Dvorsky." [an operatic virtuoso with the Slovak National Opera who
has made numerous guest appearances at opera houses throughout Europe].
Another reviewer speaks of being "introduced to some of Slovakia's national
treasures.whose exquisite voices and beautiful faces remain unforgettable
to me to this day".
An indication of the choir's artistic level is that all members of the
choir are gifted soloists. However, as an artistic ensemble they sing as a
beautiful and harmonious blend in virtually any style - from Monteverdi
through African chants to Strauss's Blue Danube, performing a variety of
music from the "golden treasury of European music," and especially unique
pieces of all periods. The Chamber Choir, founded in 1919, often
cooperates with Slovakia's premiere instrumental ensembles, such as Cappela
Istropolitana (which has had several performances in the U.S.), the Slovak
Radio Symphony Orchestra, and other distinguished orchestras, in oratorio,
cantatas and various recording projects.
The sponsoring organizations are both non-profit organizations, having
501-C-3 status. The International Community Council seeks to promote
peace and harmony in cooperation with over seventy-five ethnic and
nationality communities in the Greater Cleveland area. One of its highly
successful activities providing a laudable service to the community is a
"Know Your World" series of presentations in which each ethnic/nationality
community in the Cleveland area is given an opportunity to present it's
culture and country to the community at large.
The Cleveland-Bratislava Sister Cities organization has engaged in a wide
variety of cultural, medical and educational programs of cooperation for
the benefit of citizens of Bratislava, Cleveland, and residents and
institutions throughout the Slovak Republic, since its inception in 1991.
It is a member of Sister Cities International, and over the course of its
existence has operated as one of the most vital and active groups under the
umbrella Sister Cities program of the City of Cleveland.
The Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College is located at Richmond
and Harvard Roads, while the Western Cam;pus is located at York and
Pleasant Valley Roads. Both performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30
P.M. in the main auditorium of each campus (Eastern Campus on Nov. 20, and
Western Campus on Nov. 21). The price of admission for tickets purchased
the day of each performance is $15, but advance sale tickets may be
obtained for $11 by mailing a check to CBSC, P.O. Box 31831, Independence,
OH, 44131-0831.
Further information may be obtained by calling 440-543-7741 or

The Bratislava Conservatory Chamber Choir is composed of sixteen youths
between the ages of 19-22, and is known throughout Europe. They perform a
variety of music from the "golden treasury of European music," as well as
music from all over the world. The choir sings with the Slovak Radio
Symphony Orchestra, the Cappela Istropolitana, and other well-known groups.
The choir has been the proving ground for many great Slovak Singers. All
members of the choir are soloists and sing in many styles from Monteverde
to Strauss to African chants. The German secretary of education and
culture said of the choir, "You play an important, impressive, and
harmonious overall picture of the best of the young European choirs."
Gregg Whitesides, Chief Announcer of WQXR, the New York Times classical
music station, commented on the choir, "I have been introduced to a
treasure in chamber music by the Bratislava Conservatory Choir, whose
exquisite voices and beautiful faces will remain unforgettable. Such
talented, gifted, and indefatigable people I will always hold dear. When
they sang, tears were brought to my eyes."
