CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE

IN COLLABORATION WITH DANCECLEVELAND PRESENTS

CREACH/COMPANY IN

STUDY FOR A RESURRECTION

November 22 – 24, 2002

Cleveland Public Theatre, in collaboration with DANCECleveland, are proud to
present the critically acclaimed Creach/Company in Study For a Resurrection
for one weekend only. Performed in Cleveland Public Theatre’s Gordon Square
Theatre, choreographer Terry Creach and his six-member ensemble explore and
celebrate the sensibility and energy of men. Study For A Resurrection opens
on Friday, November 22, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. and runs through Sunday, November
24, 2002. All performances will begin at 8:00 p.m. with Sunday’s matinee at
3:00 p.m. Tickets are $18.00 with students and seniors only $15.00 on Friday
and Saturday and $15.00 and $12.00 for seniors and students on Sunday’s
matinee. For reservations or information please call 216.631.2727.

Intellectual and powerful, Creach/Company exploits the possibilities of
weight, strength, timing and momentum unique to the moving male body while
exploring the interactions of the male psyche in our society. Under the
direction of founder Terry Creach, who is "interested in the physical
interactions, the transactions, the really small improvisations that occur
when people come into close proximity...", Creach/Company strives to
undermine the Balanchine standards of dance by showcasing an entirely male
company in works that are elegant, intuitive, and emotional yet definitively
masculine.

Creach’s evening-length project includes his company of six male dancers,
lighting design by Roma Flowers, scenic elements by Sue Rees and the live
performance of a music score drawn from sacred music from the 13th to 16th
centuries. This “brotherhood” of men appropriates images from Bible stories
Michelangelo paintings and AIDS-influenced poetry. The figures move with the
unified and layered flow of early mass forms as well as with the coarse push
and pull of tense interaction. Nude figures use massive lengths of drapery
to cover nudity and to bind and link partnered actions. “Nuanced and pulsing
with gradual shifts in intensity, ‘Resurrection’ was simply a gorgeous
work,” says Sarah Kaufman of the Washington Post.
