Subject: [NEohioPAL]Introductory Letter to NEohioPALs
Message-ID: <01C29169.48795520.miken at ncgmedia.com>
Dear Fred & NEohioPAL members,
Greetings from Chicago!
Please allow me a space to introduce myself: born and raised on the east
side of Cleveland, in South Euclid. There has always been a fondness for
the town and an underlying hope that it could one day become a sort of
mecca for film enthusiasts - yes, I am ambitious but as well I'm working on
making some sort of contribution to Cleveland, to the art world, and else.
Having moved to Chicago from Los Angeles a year ago this New Year's, I
have founded an independent film company to help promote the convergence of
talent in the Midwest. Of course, while doing that I got a bit carried
away and ended up getting clipped from the day job and the current economic
climate. Thus, I am an official starving artist now, and hope to turn it
all around sometime sooner than later. Now, the shameless plug: I have a
book published through iUniverse about Everything! I kid you not, and
challenge you to alert me as to what I've left out. If I've missed
something, then I will humbly buy you a beer, a glass of wine, or whatever
your forte may be ;) My point is not to brag about having written a book
about everything, but to get the message out especially in a place like
Cleveland where a symbiotic relationship exists between the struggling high
tech/ bio-tech sector and the arts community. We can extend both, and the
more discussion there is between the two, the better off we'll all be.
Abridged conclusion: my partner in the film business resides in
Cleveland, I visit there often, I'm looking for writers' groups there, and
also film participants for the project we're planning to shoot in the
Spring 2003. Info on all this can be found at http://www.ncgmedia.com. I
hope to hear back from you and look forward to being a part of the
NEohioPAL list that Mr. Sternfeld is kind enough to distribute. I leave
y'all with a piece from my novel, "A Line in the Sand", that you may be
able to identify with~
Over and out,
Mike Norton
>From Chapter 11, "Finishes & Starts", of A Line in the Sand-->
The classical tale of Phantom: the tragic love unreturned, exchanged with
despair over imperfections of the self--gave Avery moments of an emotional
"letting go". He sat next to Elaine in the Pantages theatre, atop the
balcony, letting the music soak into his bones, watching the chandelier
swing and tumble down to the stage, the mask unraveled--the masquerade--and
the tears from the actor's eyes. Elaine let her tears roll, as did most of
the women there, but Avery was just as moved. He enjoyed the sensation
working within him--the deep, mighty ripples of unrest lumbering from side
to side like magnificent silver whales hovering in a sightless abyss. He
allowed his eyes to fill wellishly, and that was enough for him to have
been satisfied for what he paid. He sighed and stood up afterwards, dazed
by the occasion of having his mind, his heart, nourished by an escape to a
tragedy like that.
Avery's favorite show, however, on the stage, under the lights, raw with
human excitement and expression, was introduced to him by Leia Evanstridge.
The two of them simply made it a must every time it rolled into Cleveland.
His mother's favorite as well, it happened as unnoticed as a change of
weather in Cleveland, that the two of them sat together, in silence, felt
the same, churning emotion inside, barely understood it, but felt it, lived
it, together, absorbing the sounds, and the sights, of melodramatic
struggles set in a far away place, a far away time, having something to do
with pain, with unspoken agony, something about speaking the truth, and all
the while just a show, a scene, a performance, that ended after two
hours....
