Merriest wishes abound as
North Coast Mens Chorus
ushers in its 15th season
CLEVELAND Buoyed by the influx of more than 20 new
singers, major corporate sponsorship and accelerated
community involvement, the North Coast Mens Chorus
opens its 15th season with festive holiday
performances Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22.
More than 90 singers will fill the Waetjen Auditorium
stage at Cleveland State University for We Wish You
The Merriest at 8 p.m. Dec 21 and 3 p.m. Dec. 22.
This years extravaganza will feature everything from
elfin magic to Santa-sized surprises. Diversity among
nations will be celebrated with offerings such as the
impassioned Hebrew canticle Over the Skies of Yisrael;
the exquisitely arranged folk melody Carol From an
Irish Cabin; the Nigerian Christmas song, Betelehemu;
and a Caribbean carol, The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.
On the lighter side, be on the lookout for exercising
elves and for Jingle Bells and other traditional
holiday favorites to take on amusingly unique
dimensions. A few old time holiday favorites in more
traditional settings will uplift seasonal spirits.
A precedent-setting performance at Cleveland Mayor
Jane Campbells inaugural ball in January kicked off
an exceptionally active 2002 for NCMC. In addition to
its regular seasonal concerts, the group has begun
production of its first commercial CD; performed at
the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) of Choruses
Regional Festival in Cincinnati in July; sang at and
raised more than $5,400 at the Dr. John Carey Memorial
AIDS Walk/Run in September; and received a $10,000
audience-development grant from American Express in
October. The chorus is also scheduled to perform live
during the broadcast of the Fox 8 in the Morning news
program on Monday, Dec. 16.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 day of show. Call
1-800-766-6048 or visit any NCMC ticket outlet: Body
Language, 3291 W. 115th St., Cleveland; Diverse
