OPENING FRIDAY!
DOBAMA presents the OHIO PREMIERE of
The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife
By Charles Busch
Directed by Fred Sternfeld

January 17 - February 9, 2003

Between Bloomingdale’s, The Metropolitan Opera and The Museum of Modern Art,
who has time for a nervous breakdown?

Dobama Theatre proudly presents the smash Broadway comedy The Tale of the
Allergist’s Wife. New Yorker Marjorie Taub, played by Jeanne Task, finds
herself in a mid-life crisis -- until her mysterious childhood friend
arrives. This comedy with chutzpah delivers deliciously devious social
satire.

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife is a Tony-nominated comedy which has been
called “uproarious” (The New York Times) “irresistibly hilarious” (The Daily
News) and “the funniest play I have ever seen in my life!” (Rosie O’
Donnell). And it’s coming to Ohio for the first time – here at Dobama
Theatre.

The cast includes Marjorie's highly accomplished husband Ira (Greg Violand)
and mysterious best friend Lee (Laura Perrotta). Add to this equation
Marjorie's eccentrically vocal mother (Myrtle Silverman) and the Taubs'
philosophical doorman Mohammed (Rajiv Punja), and you have the ingredients
for a comedy filled with surprises.

“Under the surface, the play is a heartfelt exploration of how one
middle-aged woman comes to understand her self-worth,” says director Fred
Sternfeld.

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife playwright Charles Busch is the author and
star of such plays as Psycho Beach Party, Times Square Angel, The Lady in
Question, Red Scare on Sunset, You Should Be So Lucky, Queen Amarantha,
Shanghai Moon, Flipping My Wig and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom (recently
performed by CPT). He wrote the book for The Green Heart, which was
produced by Manhattan Theatre Club. The New York Daily News called Busch “a
comic playwright of the first rank.”
